Problem with canonical issues

Posted on: March 12, 2009

If your site has a trouble with canonical issues, you could be unenthusiastically affected in the search engines. A canonical problem with a website is when a search engine fails to grasp that http://www.sample.com and http://sample.com are the same site, and then it indexes the same pages with two different URLs. The search engines then observe these pages as duplicates of one another and may drive them down in the search results.

A 301 redirect will inform the search engines that the pages should be redirected to one URL type. This kind of redirect will also guarantee that any link that accidentally links to the wrong URL type will still be recognized to the correct URL type – which will stop search engine confusion and a possible drop in search engine results. So Seo analyst should concentrate on canonical issues
